St. Joseph Parish, St Johns at 109 Linden Street, St. Johns, MI 48879 US - Becoming a Catholic

Becoming a Catholic

We welcome you to join us in prayer during one of our many Masses, and to join us too, in our efforts to serve God and one another in the world in which we live.

We trust that as you explore our web site, you will find the information you are seeking and come to know us a bit more.

We are a community of Roman Catholic Christians who have experienced God's love for us, shown through His Son, Jesus Christ. We commit ourselves to living our lives as faithful disciples of the Lord, striving to make His way of life our own more and more each day.

For those who would like to learn about the Catholic Faith, it is recommended that they register for our Inquiry Classes. This is a time for asking questions, to begin to learn about the Catholic Faith. We also look at our liturgy, our form of worship. It involves no commitment other than attendance at the meetings and at Sunday Mass.

A person who has completed the Inquiry Classes and is seriously considering joining the Catholic Church will be welcomed into the Catechumenate. At this stage, one continues to learn what it means to live a Catholic life. We will reflect further on the Scriptures and investigate the teachings of the Catholic Church. We explore the Lord's message for living a moral and socially just life in the world today.

This time of prayer and reflection leads to the celebration of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

Having become a member of the Catholic Church, the newly initiated will continue to meet with other new Catholics. This is a time to reflect upon their new experience as a Catholic. It is a time for prayer, community, and service.
